CapEd is getting excited to host our Tenth Annual Movie Trailer Contest!

What's Different This Year?

Our judges noticed in previous years that the genre of action and adventure was associated frequently with violence or fear in the trailers that we received, as it is oftentimes in cinema. Though many of these trailers were still evidence of talent and storytelling skill, this year we wanted to take special action to ensure that the content presented in our contestants' movie trailers would be appropriate for even the youngest members of their families in the audience.

That's why we included PG and PG-13 Rating guidelines for our 10th Annual CapEd Movie Trailer Contest. With these guidelines, our contestants have a reference for what content would be appropriate for the audiences who will be watching their videos at the awards ceremony and on our website for years to come.

What The Judges Are Looking For

Movie Trailers are incentives-- good ones entertain us enough with sneak peaks from the film that we feel we need to go see the movie so we can learn the full story. That's why they can be tough to make on their own. They don't tell the whole story, so what are the judges looking for?

In each 3-minute trailer, our judges are looking for just enough information and intrigue to want to watch the feature film but not give away the story's beginning, middle, and end. Our movie-making experts offer some help for young movie-makers on our contest website. In addition to these tips and tricks, we list examples of movie trailers from the past that did just what a trailer should do to represent a great feature film.
